EarthBound Zero, Mother 1+2, An EarthBound re-release outside Japan. These are many things the casual gamer probably knows nothing about. It's almost as if NOA is trying to erase the existence of the series like they did with CD-i. (except that people hated CD-i) Don't believe me? Check this stuff out then.
First of all, if you were up to date with the SSBB updates waaaaaaaay back in 2007-2008 like I was, you may know this already, but in the Japanese SSBB, there WAS an EarthBound masterpiece. However, upon localization, this master piece was removed in the English version.
Today's generation doesn't know a thing about the series. If you mention Ness in public somebody else will just be all "Oh yeah, Ness. He's in Super Smash Bros." NOA probably thinks that forgetting about it is the best thing to do because it didn't sell very well back in 1995 because people thought the graphics were too "toony". I've always thought it was weird because I've been playing video games since I was three years old, and never in my life have I given a shit about graphics. As long as I liked the gameplay, I was perfectly fine with the game.
I know NOA had a lot of problems with localization in the original release, and lets face it. With the existence of stuff like SOPA, legal problems are much worse today, but the point is the game was fun. Legal right are also why EB never made Virtual Console. I've always loved Nintendo, but for reasons like and unlike this I've never liked NOA. So yeah, to close, I say:
