So when Sonic 4 was announced, I was as excited as many others. I decided to get it on all platforms. But levels that are remakes of older levels was a bit of a disappointment. Plus, Sonic was given an unnecessary homing attack. On the other hand, I kept abusing the Jump Dash because of Sonic's slow starting speed. Also, this is just a nitpick but WHERE THE HELL IS TAILS!? I mean sure Sonic (1) and Sonic CD didn't have him but that's because Sonic (1) was before his debut and Sonic CD was started at the same time as Sonic 2. But really, Sonic without Tails is like Haruhi Suzumiya without Kyon. Next is another personal point but with the exception of Splash Hill and Mad Gear, the music is so boring. I got tired of Casino Street and the Final Boss themes so quickly that when I was playing the iOS version, I played the songs they were based on over them. Finally, the replay value is terrible compared to the Genesis games. Since I first beat episode I, I've replayed Sonic (1), Sonic 2, Sonic CD, (Epic game is epic) and Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Epicer game is Epicer) multiple times, but I can't bring myself to replay Sonic 4 Episode I. In conclusion, for a sequel to the classic series, it doesn't do what the others did. I give it a 6.5/10.
Recently, Episode II came out, and it's a lot better than Episode I. First of all, Tails is now available. It feels nice to have an asistant who makes very stupid mistakes with you. We also have some original levels. Sylvania Castle Zone, White Park Zone, and Oil Desert Zone. Each boss is original as well. After beating those three stages unlock Sky Fortress Zone. Kind of funny how it uses Wing Fortress's beta name. The first act is basically Sky Chase. While acts 2 and 3 are like Wing Fortress, but they have the S3K Death Egg Loopy-Loos! Speaking of which, the final stage is Death Egg MK II. To avoid spoilers, I'm not saying anything about this stage. In episode II, the handling is much better, and it's just more replayable. Those who have Episodes I and II also get episode Metal. It's basically Act 1 of each Episode I stage with Metal Sonic, who controlls exactly the same as Sonic. 'nuff said. This game was pretty fun compared to the other one and songs are getting stuck in my head thanks to it. I give it an 8/10.
