I started this several months back. It's a game that's not a hack. Instead, it's made from Game Maker. (It's the best program I have since I don't know how to make game engines or anything in code) The storyline is very simple (Here's some plot spoilers for those who love them) Smash goes on an adventure to stop an enigmatic figure known only as the Shadow King from ruling over his homeland.
The game has six levels and half are based on places from other games. (Some more obvious than others) Each level is three stages long (On behalf of the original Sonic The Hedgehog) and the third stage of each level is a bit shorter but has a boss battle at the end of it.
Since I'm not on my main computer right now, I can't show you any screenshots. Instead, I'll just show the stage backgrounds that I've added to the internet.
WARNING: PICTURES ARE BIG! BE PREPARED FOR THAT!
Control Style: Smash controls like your average 2D Platformer character. He moves left and right. and attacks enemies by jumping on their heads. If Smash gets hurt, he loses health. However, there are many cases where jumping is a bad approach to attack. Smash can also grab different weapons to fight. There are many different items scattered all over the game.
Coins: Currency. Grab 100 for an extra life
Hearts: Unlike in Castlevania, hearts heal Smash. If you're low on health, look for some.
Sword: Most common weapon. If you can't jump on the enemy, use this.
Rubber Ball: Long Range Weapon. Unlimited Ammo like all weapons.
Throwing Knife: Less crappy than Castlevania's. Like Rubber Ball except destoys breakable walls and kills enemies the rubber ball can't.
Bomb: Least common weapon. Destroys rock solid barricades, and has wide attack range.
This game still has a long way to go. I'd say it's in about the late alpha stage. I hope to have the game enjoyable, and will work on it when I have extra time, which is not while I'm writing this. It will be out when it's out. No deadline, no release date.

- Spoiler:
- Level 1: Smash World (Very Uncreative Name) Boss: Undecided
Call it World 1, Green Greens, Green Hill Zone, or whatever you want. It's a simple tutorial level that teaches concepts of the levels. There will be message boxes that can help you, but you can turn these on and off freely as many times as you want.
Level 2: Forest Of Magic: No Picture, looks the crappiest out of all of them so far and needs revising. Boss: Marisa Kirisame
Deep in Gensokyo, (Don't ask how Smash got there he just did) Smash enters a forest full of some dangerous traps. Try to avoid the Fairies and Mr. Ghosties or just attack them. It doesn't matter which. This boss is kinda difficult.
Level 3: Winter City. Boss: Undecided
Late at night this huge snow covered city (although you can't tell it's snow covered) Smash must slide around while avoiding freezing enemies. The city lights are bright and crappily drawn. This place is very lively.
Level 4: Lost Underworld. Boss: Giygas (Mother 1 form)
Smash enters a dark cave while on his way to find the Shadow King. Starmen, Mooks, and Shamblers are everywhere. At the end of stage one, Smash will travel back in time and...
...the stage changes completely. There are even more enemies and they all support the universal cosmic destroyer.
Level 5: Death Egg. No BG available. BG is just Scrap Brain Zone Act 2/Final Zone. Boss: Eggman
Smash has been teleported to Dr. Ivo Eggman Robotnik's space station. This is one of the hardest levels, but not nearly as hard as the final.
Final Level: Shadow Space. Boss: Shadow King and Perfect Chaos. Final Boss: Shadow King.
The final level. Stage 1 is pretty hard, and Stage 2 is (almost) endless! Will Smash bring peace to this world? I'm leaving this level a bigger secret than the rest.
