Retailers in the United Kingdom are reporting that sales for the 3DS have increased so much recently that the ‘Metallic Red’ 3DS is almost sold out and the other versions of the handheld are heading in the same direction. This rise in sales is apparently due to the release of Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land. Iain Johnson of GAME has even said that, “We have high expectations [of the 3DS] for the final few weeks before Christmas.”

I'm getting a 3DS for Christmas & Super Mario land 3D is a game that I'm hoping to get.

And this is really both sad and impressive. It either means that there was a little number of units shipped to the UK or that it's too popular.
