WELL THANK YOU NICALIS. FREAKING. BLOODY. THANK YOU!
Thank you SO MUCH FOR RUININGEALKSJFDLKWEF

Oh...I didn't see you there. Well hello! This is a spontaneous review of the latest game out for the 3DS, Cave Story 3D. Now, I am a true Cave Story fan. Not only have I played the original, but I also have 3 other versions including this brand new one. The first two remakes were just altered graphically only slightly but it had a nice bit of polish. However, it also included a horrid soundtrack of remakes from the original. Thankfully, they had a patch which replaced it with much more tolerable remixes, along with the choice of choosing the original graphics and soundtrack as well. Now this brand new version has come out, so let's start talking about that.

Ok, there is obviously a LOT of new things here. Let's start with the obvious:
The Graphics
First, I will focus on the background and environmental setting. Bloody. Amazing. I can't explain how much the updated BACKGROUND ALONE adds to the feeling of the game. Which once used to be a "wall" in the original, now holds an entire world in the background fitting the setting. Even if you're in a house or shack, you can feel that vastness or claustrophobic air that aids the setting. It's something that one experience for oneself. Oh, and one more thing: HELL. HELL LOOKS SO....SO COOL. THE SEALED CHAMBER. THE BALCONY ALSO OH MY GOSH AND THE THRONE ROOM AND AND *shot*
Now, there is a disappointing side to the graphics as well. The platforming is somewhat muddled and doesn't always look that great so it's hard to know where some things are or what's solid and whatnot.
The other aspect of graphics are the character models. Ok. This is the part where you should leave. I'm going to bash it terribly right now, but it's for its own good. The models aren't that great to be honest. Now, it was pretty cool to see the Doctor in 3D and what not, but a lot of what I predicted to look amazing disappointed me immensely. The character models are sort of muddled and some of them look plain weird. The animation for them is also really sloppy compared to the nice smoothness of the original 2D sprites. For example, death animations or teleporting animations are nonexistent, in other words, they just "disappear" and no more. So no awesome bloody death scene for the Doctor. ;-; HUGE disappointment right there. Also, some of the boss models are just...wrong. The Undead Core was also a letdown as it looked just...awful. I'm sorry, but it did. Again, you have to see it to understand.
One other feature was the ability to replace those muddled models with the original game sprites, and I actually quite like that MUCH more. The only issue I found is that some of the sprites get covered by others and such, like in the Last Battle, Misery was hidden behind the Core the entire time so I didn't see her at all. But despite that issue, everything looks MUCH better, despite the 3D and 2D differences.
Overall, the environments look amazing while the new models are just, well, sad. The original sprite feature makes up for it big time.

The Gameplay and Controls
Basically the same as it was in the original. Perfection basically. The only complaint I have is that it takes a while playing it on the 3DS, but it was just due to not being used to it. In time, it felt just as natural as it does on the computer. It also includes Easy, Normal, and Hard modes to challenge new comers and experts like moi. The Sanctuary Time Attack also makes a comeback from the Wii version as well. Next!

The Music
Cave Story has an AMAZING soundtrack. One thing I was deeply worried of was the quality of this game's remixes since it was so AWFUL on the Wii version before the patch. I was NOT disappointed. It has some STELLAR remixes that are just FREAKING AWESOME! However, some themes, I feel, were deprived of their original feeling and emotion the original evokes. They still sound really good, but it just doesn't feel as right as the original did. One minor complaint I might add is that the sound of the game play greatly overpowers the background music, so one isn't able to actually enjoy it to it's full extent. I just wish they could've added a volume control or original volume option as well. Oh well, that's why I got the Steam version. TOHOHO!

The Levels and Items
That's right. NEW. CONTENT. YES. YOU HEARD...I mean....READ ME. Now in this game there are 100 health points to be collected, so you gotta catch em all! Another nice addition is the penguin hat, which is some reference to idunnowhere but who cares. It's a HAT ~DeeDee Apparently its a reference to Prinnies. Nuff said
But let's get on with the levels. The original levels are all still there, but some of them have some secret passageways or corridors that one must go through either as a fun sidetrack or to continue through the game! One perfect example is the escape from the Collapsing Throne Room. As soon as I rushed out, little did I know that a BRAND NEW AREA WAS WAITING FOR ME TO RUSH OUT AND ESCAPE. I WAS FREAKING OUT MAN. SO EPIC. Apparently there are several other levels I missed such as the "Inner Wall" and such, but my brother played it without me. ;-; Oh well.

The Story
Same as always. Epic as always. Next.

The Loading Screens
Now we know games gotta do what games gotta do. (lol jontron reference????orthatotherguyidunno) BUT STILL. The only thing I must say about these is that they RUIN THE ATMOSPHERE COMPLETELY. IT TOTALLY STOPS THE MUSIC WHEN THE GAME IS MAKING A TRANSITION! I don't know if it's due to loading the graphics or something, but whatever. Just a silly complaint of mine. Only until you play it can you understand what I mean.

The Verdict
Well, that's all I can think of right now. Cave Story 3D is a nice rendition of what could've been a RUSHED 3D GAME OF CAVE STORY. I'm sorry, but it's obvious that this game was rushed. Cut scene and graphical glitches ruin the atmosphere of such a moving story and a spectacular game. The music however is perfectly remade and the environments just make you look on at wonder at the world you can explore. Now I know OH GRAPHICS DOESN'T MAKE A GAME GOOD and that's true. But the fact that it's so frequent takes away from the experience of this masterpiece. Despite the glitches and rushed character models, this would be a perfect remake of an already perfect game.

Score: Skeletor's Coffee Mug out of Balrog's Theme.

Well it's my own personal view on the game, and not a real gigantic review examining the story as well (cuz i would do that regardless in a real review) and its not really official, so in a sense its my own opinion to a degree.
